About Us
Mindel and Morse Builders is a Brattleboro-based company that specializes in new construction and remodeling. Our company is built on a legacy of aesthetically stunning, lasting work and being on the cutting edge of green building practices such as a focus on energy efficiency and building in a way that makes for little embodied carbon and maximizes the use of local materials.
Mindel and Morse Builders is not tied to any one aesthetic, but rather to a philosophy of helping to create a sense of home and places of long-lasting health. Whether building an entire new structure from the ground up or renovating one room to complete the realization of a home, our team is dedicated to helping homeowners bring their visions to life while embracing building practices that positively impact the environment, the planet, and the people whose lives unfold within the space.
Our company was founded in 1981 by Steve Mindel and Jonathan Morse. Gero Dolfus, who has been leading the company since 2018, sees himself as a steward of Mindel and Morse Builders, their principles, their team, the houses they have built, and the large group of clients that has formed over the years. Gero grew up in Germany, studied economics at the universities of Tübingen, Helsinki, and Minnesota, and holds a master’s degree from the University of Helsinki. Gero moved to Vermont with his wife, who hails from Vermont, after the pair decided to return to her home state to put down roots.
Shortly after his arrival in Vermont, Gero began working for Steve Mindel and Jonathan Morse as a carpenters helper. That relationship would eventually lead to Gero carrying on the pair’s work by following their guiding philosophies to bring their company into its next chapter after the founders’ retirement. In 2017, Gero became a certified Passive House Builder and a dad. He has been a licensed construction supervisor in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts since 2023.
