Nested Barns

Built in Brattleboro, VT, in 2020
The program was simple. Garage on the ground floor with a conditioned family room above. And maybe you could reuse some of the timbers from the old barn in the new space? Then we suggested to reuse the entire timber frame barn. We can do that? Yes. Let’s do it!

We stripped the timber frame barn off its siding and roofing, braced it, craned it out of the way to make room for the new barn, craned it onto the second floor, and built a new roof over it. We created a modern shell around the historic barn that is airtight and super insulated - like we do.
